PART 2, TRANSFERRING

The directions for transferring are easy.

First, make sure that the background fabric (white or cream) is cut evenly and not distorted.

Second, measure approximately 3" - 4" from the bottom of the fabric all the way across the width, and mark this lightly with an appropriate marking tool (that will either disappear, erase, or wash out).  This marked line (shown in purple below) is going to be your guide to placing the alphabetical/numerical symbols that represent the personalization.

If you prefer not to mark on your fabric, then you can pin across the length of the fabric and/or use an iron to lightly crease a line.

Third, take your letters/numbers for the personalization and line them up in the order in which they go, using the line as the reference point to keep your text straight.  Lightly (very lightly with a pencil or with a disappearing pen tool) trace around each one, trying to space them apart evenly.  It's a good idea to begin with the middle letter/number and then work your way out each side.    Remember, we are going to trim this and "square" it up later, so that will compensate for any discrepancy.  You do, however, want to have at least 3" - 5" on both ends and the top and bottom (so your text is centered).  Note:  It is important to remember that the background fabric will show through your outlining of the letters.  Mine doesn't because of my graphics software limitations.

Fourth,  "square" up your top at this point.

Stay tuned for the next installment of directions (and photos), as well as options on finishing your project!
