Mini-Marathon Mystery

It's time for a quickie mystery done in a marathon style! So, for those of you that have nothing better to do on either New Year's Eve and New Year's Day OR on Super Bowl Sunday, how about making a mini quilt? From start to finish, this cute little mini mystery should take less than 1.5 to 2 hours.

This MQ begins on December 31st, 2001 at approximately 7pm EST and ends on January 1st, 2002. The pace at which you move through the instructions depends entirely on you! It will also be repeated again on Super Bowl Sunday, for those that can't participate the first time around. It will be removed at the end of January, though, so get it while it's available!

It is important to note that very few exact measurements are given in this MQ. Why? Because each of you are working with a different size of panel or fabric piece.

Requirements:

  • A piece of fabric depicting an "outdoor" type scene. This can be a pillow panel or a landscape type of fabric. As long as it looks as though it's outdoors, you should be safe. Pictured below is a gorgeous batik panel which is the example I've chosen to be used throughout this MQ.

NOTE: This batik panel is really 28" x 35" and would be too large to use as shown in this MQ, without adjustments being made. This will be better explained in the next set of instructions.

  • A larger piece of fabric for the backing. Don't cut this until you are given the directions for doing so.

  • Enough fabric for a border to go around the "outdoor" type scene. Be liberal because you'll need more than the exact size of the panel or fabric! I would make sure to have at least 12" x 42" more than you think you might need.

  • A few scraps for some accents on the borders.

  • General sewing and quilting supplies.
