  9. Sewing on the Edges and Corners!

This lesson gives instructions as to how to sew on the edge and corner triangles to the quilt top.

This top should look similar to the photo below, without the edges and corners being sewn on yet.

Use the following diagram to better acquaint yourself to the composition of this quilt top, at this point.  Note the location of the edge triangles and also the corner triangles.  Knowing where these are in relation to your quilt top is vital to it assembling quickly and  easily (not to mention correctly!).  The edges are notated by an E, along with a number, and the corners are notated by an X, along with a number.  Note:  The numbers beside the "X's" and "E's" simply differentiates each position in the quilt top.

Sewing on the Edges!

  1. Sew E1 to the first block, making sure to line up the bottom pieces of each first and to also put them right sides together.  The bottom edge of E1 (seen to the right of the number "1" above is a 90° angle and so is the bottom left portion of the first block.  This makes it ideal for lining it up and sew it from there.  Refer to the photo below for more clarity.

Sewing on the Corners!

This part is easy!  Simply sew X1, X2, X3, and X4 onto each corner, as illustrated in the diagram above.

The Finished Quilt Top!

The quilt top is now complete.  Of course, you can always add a nice border to yours, if you wish.  As of yet, I haven't made up my mind as to whether I'll add a border or not, but I'm leaning toward "not" (since I like to keep quilts I begin a little smaller, as I donate them to charities).

Here is a photo of my finished top, which I have dubbed "Cool Tools".  This top will be completed and then donated to a charity.

To finish your top, merely layer it with batting and backing, then quilt it, label it, and bind it.

Thank you for participating in this online class.  I certainly hope that you learned how to tackle the on-point layout!

Please share a photo of your finished quilt to quilting@quiltingpassion.com.  I would love to see what you have done!
