This is a very simple pattern in which you simply cut out six (6) identical hearts, then arrange them in a circle on a contrasting background fabric.  When placing the hearts in a circle, it is easier if you first press the background square in half, then press in half again.  These crease marks give you points of reference so that it makes the layout more symmetrical.  Also, I cut my background to 9" so that I would have a small amount of room for "shrinkage" when appliquéing.  Once I finished appliquéing, I then trimmed the block to 8.5".

The block shown above is 8.5", unfinished.  The width of the individual hearts (at its widest point) is approximately 3".

By arranging these hearts into a wreath, it forms a star in the center.  This is perfect for a signature block, as shown above.

These hearts were fused down with a lightweight, double-sided fusible webbing, then appliquéd on using the Buttonhole Stitch.

"All About Blocks" is a work in progress, so be sure to check back often, as more and more free block patterns in multiple sizes are added!  All block patterns that are linked to from the "Quilting Passion Patterns" page are created by Terry Crawford, and although many of them are traditional patterns, a great deal of them are original designs.  Please respect the copyright of this site.  Thank you!
