A Sregora Original

"All About Blocks" is a work in progress, so be sure to check back often, as more and more free block patterns in multiple sizes are added!  All block patterns that are linked to from the "Quilting Passion Patterns" page are created by Terry Crawford, and although many of them are traditional patterns, a great deal of them are original designs.  Please respect the copyright of this site.  Thank you!

 Appliquéd Pumpkin

The finished block measures 4 inches square (4 1/2 inches unfinished).  Instructions:  Use good quality, 100% cotton pre-washed fabrics.

This pattern may print off of your computer at a different size than listed above.  Enlarge and/or reduce on a copy machine to achieve the size that you need.

  1. Cut as many of the background squares as you need.  This pattern should finish at 4.5" x 4.5", so I would cut my background squares 4.75" x 4.75" (to allow for shrinkage from the appliqué process).

  2. Using the pattern provided, cut one (1) circle from pattern part B.  This is the basis of the pumpkin.

  3. Using the pattern provided, cut one (1) from each of the remaining pattern parts, C, D, E, F, and G.

  4. Begin by placing part B on the part A background square.    Do not try to center this piece in the middle, because you need to fit in Parts C and D on top of it at the last.  Refer to the diagram at the left for an illustration.  Parts E, F, and G should be placed on top of the  pumpkin circle, B, and appliquéd in place.

  5. Appliqué Part D in place, over the pumpkin's body.

  6. Appliqué Part C in place, on top of Part D.

  7. Press the block flat.

  8. Trim to 4.5" x 4.5" or to the size that you adjusted the pattern to.

For an example of this pattern used in a quilt, refer to Mystery Quilt 17, which is a Fall/Autumn Pumpkin Wallhanging; also refer to the illustration below:
