CLick to enlarge image     This cute, rose-themed, project includes complete instructions for two (2) different quilt versions for the same set of blocks:  (1) A straight (sometimes called "horizontal" and shown on the right) Click to enlargeset that measures 42" x 52" when finished and (2) An on-point  set (shown to the left), that measures 52" x 52" when finished.  Note that the on-point setting leaves one blank block in the middle; this block is your choice, if you choose to use another.  Or, you can choose to leave it plain, as shown.

Each block finishes at 8" x 8".  Should you desire to make your blocks larger, simply enlarge the appliqué pieces; for example, a 10" block would require patterns to be enlarged about 125%.  There are 12 blocks in this quilt, all appliquéd.  Although I almost always use the button-hole appliqué technique, this time I am opting for needle-turn appliqué, with a few variations.  The blocks will start out simple, then become more complex.

Fabric requirements are given below.   Along with typical sewing supplies, some type of template plastic is needed for the needle-turn appliqué technique used in this quilt.

Appliqué tips can be found in the Quilting Passion How To's section.  The sample quilt used in the examples uses the button-hole technique (my favorite method of appliqué!).

     The 12 blocks include:

Fabric requirements vary, depending on the size of blocks made and how you choose to finish the border(s).

For an 8" finished block (42" x 52" quilt), the horizontal set shown above on the left, plan on approximately one (1) yard for the background fabric, 2/3 yard for the sashings, 1/4 yard for the corner squares, 2/3 yard for the border, 1 1/2 yards for the backing, and 1/4 yard for the binding.

Plan on adding about 1/4 (1/2 for the backing) yard to each measurement above if you choose to set your quilt on-point.  And remember, this is a work in progress, so measurements are approximate!

Appliqué pieces can be used from scraps!  The instructions given for needle-turn appliqué require the purchase of some type of template plastic.

Comments to this quilt are appreciated, as are pictures of your works-in-progress!  Thank you so much!
