2007 Block Parties!

Some call it block lotto, some may call it block-drawing luck, but we're calling ours a block party!  Just what is a block party?

Each month, beginning again on January 1st, 2007, a block pattern is provided with the instructions, size, and color theme given.  Participants make the block, using our guidelines, and e-mail the Quilting Passion Interactive Forum Block Party Hostess, Cathy, with the number of blocks you have made.

Each participant can make up to eight (8) blocks per month, which would be your "entry" or "entries".  Once you submit the total number of blocks you are making, you then receive a confirmation e-mail from the Hostess telling you where to mail the blocks.  She'll also give you instructions on the "how to" in mailing them at that time.  Once she receives your blocks, your name goes into a "hat" the same number of times as the number of blocks you mail.  In other words, if you mail three (3) blocks, your name goes into the hat three (3) separate times for that month or if you only submit one (1) block, it goes in once, and so on.

At the end of the month (around the 25th), all of the names of everyone participating in the Block Party are shaken very well and a single name is drawn from the current month's participants.  That lucky person receives a package containing all the blocks submitted for that month.

In the event that we have a large number of blocks (30 or more?) submitted for any given month, the blocks are to be divided.  For 30 blocks, there will be two (2) winners.  For each additional 30 blocks, there will be one (1) additional winner, so if there are 60 blocks, there would be three (3) winners (2 for the first 30 and 1 for the next 30).  If there are 90 blocks, then there would be four (4) winners.  120 blocks would be five (5) winners, and so forth from there.

The winner each month has the option to choose the next month's block pattern and we will do our best to provide the pattern and instructions for it.  It is important to note, however, that this is not required, so if a winner chooses not to choose the next pattern, that's fine, too.

Sound like fun?  Want to join?  If so, log onto the Quilting Passion forum and look for the "Block Party" folder for more information or contact us via e-mail.

The deadline for submitting your block (or blocks) is 9 pm CST on the 25th of each month (which is the time at which the drawing will be held), so please have them mailed in time to make the deadline.  To submit your entry(ies), simply contact Cathy for her address.

Guidelines:

bullet

Blocks submitted for the Block Party drawing must use good quality, 100% cotton fabric and quality matching thread.  (Such as, no thin fabric that you can see through or white fabric sewn with navy thread.).

bullet

Blocks should measure the stated size.  Please double check and square up your blocks prior to mailing.  Any blocks not measuring within less than ¼” of the stated size will not be included in the drawing.

bullet

Do your best to make a block that anyone would be proud to include in their quilt.  Remember to press your seams in the appropriate direction and trim any loose threads.  Poorly constructed blocks will not be included in the drawing.

bullet

When possible, the hostess and/or participants will identify potential “trouble spots” for each block and offer suggestions to aid those who may still be in pursuit of that scant ¼” seam and to further help you insure your blocks meet the requirements for inclusion.

bullet

Please remember, this is a lotto, involving many different people with various skill levels.  You may become the proud new owner of enough blocks to put together into a quilt, or you may only receive the chance to try a new pattern and practice your skills.

Most importantly – HAVE FUN!!!
