Enjoy November!!!

by Terry

It is already fall in Oklahoma and where has this year gone to?!  Each month just seems to zoom by more quickly than the last... until, before I know it, another year has passed.

Now, to get the apologies out of the way.  I have been very remiss in the newsletters for the past two months, due to medical problems and real life.  So, for those of you that have been wondering where this was, it was in limbo!  I am truly sorry!

Would you believe that my garden is still producing tomatoes and peppers?  In fact, I have so many that we give them away daily!  I am sick of canning, already.  LOL.

I have totally lost the vast majority of my tan and I'm already fighting with Curt over the thermostat settings.  He likes it cool and I freeze with anything under 75º!  He wins most of the time, as I just add more layers of clothing!

I have a confession to make.  I am in a quilting slump.  I have just had so much to do and too many things on my mind and quilting has taken a back seat for the past couple of months.  I am trying so hard to get myself revved back up, but it is hard doing so.  But, alas, I've done this before and I know it will pass and I'll jump back in and will have a million new projects and patterns for all of you.  I can hardly wait!  And speaking of quilting, read on...

My sewing room is so full that I have ran out of space to store my fabric.  Now, most would simply quit buying fabric and/or begin using it up at a huge rate.  But, oh no, not me.  Today, Curt began tearing out shelves and completely redoing my space!  It is a total mess, but I can hardly wait to see it finished.  I'm betting that I'll get back in the quilting groove when I get my new space done.  And not only that, but I've got a new serger I need to figure out and I'm buying a new embroidery machine next week or so.  So much to do!

At my last report on the weight loss, I had lost 208 pounds.  I have now lost 230 pounds, but can tell that I'm really slowing down.  In fact, some weeks, I gain a pound or so!  Now, that totally freaks me out.  I have put off buying clothes for over a year now and have been living in baggy stuff and hand-me-downs.  But, over the past month, I've begun shopping and buying a few things (another reason Curt is redoing my closets!).  Anyone that is or has ever been overweight knows exactly what I mean when I say that I do not want to regain the weight.  It is too hard to lose and I will kick myself in the butt if I gain any of this back!  Healthwise?  Read on...

I have been under the weather since I fell and broke the bones in the left side of my face (Facial Orbital Blowout) in late August.  With that came a concussion and I'm still having trouble focusing and stuff.  Having an MRI on Monday to see if the bruising on the front of my brain is leaking blood.  That sounds horrid, doesn't it?  Been having a few dizzy spells and headaches, but should know what's going on next week.  Had a ton of bloodwork last week and it all came back good!!!  I was tickled pink.  My doctor trained me to give myself B12 shots on a monthly basis and I am hoping I can do it next month.  I may make Curt... and if that fails, I may just go into the office and let a nurse do it.  LOL

Does anyone watch QVC?  Well, I started shopping on QVC back in  1989 and was pretty sold on all of their merchandise.  Well, for about 5-7 years, I worked too much and didn't have time to watch it, but I've spent tons of time over the past couple of months and I have almost all of my Christmas shopping done.  And where do you think I bought my new Janome serger?  LOL  And I love the Quacker Factory sweaters.  They are so cute!  I am going to have to break down and order one of those for the holiday seasons coming up.

Enough chattering.  I guess it's been so long that I got to "talk" to all of you that I'm just bursting with small stuff to talk about!

Absolutely nothing!  I have been a bad, bad Terry.

The November  Wallpaper is now online, thanks to our sweet, talented Wilma!

No new block patterns from me this past month, but I have a lot of ideas!

Be sure to check the main page of my Web site for updates on new patterns released.  Or click here to explore the possibilities!

My pick for pattern of this month is a teapot refrigerator magnet that doubles as a gift.    This pattern was shared on the forum and I love it.  I would like to make a few to give to several of my aunts this Christmas!  This pattern is fairly simple and so cute!

Mystery Quilt 15 will probably be ready to go early in January.  This will give us something to do to relieve the holiday stress that we incur this season!

The Gallery is a special place to showcase pictures of all the quilts that YOU have made using my patterns and/or ideas.  I have just recently added several new pictures, so be sure to check them out.  Y'all do such great work!!!

And if you have finished any of my patterns, please share a picture with me so that I can add you to the gallery!  I would appreciate it!

There are many activities going on.  A few of our monthly projects include:

  • Block Party

  • FQ Drawing

  • Charity Projects

  • Fabric Swaps

  • Block Swaps

  • Challenges

  • Events

The "Round Robin Charity Drive", or RRCD continues to be an all-important aspect of the forum.  We have initiated a total of 386 quilts since March of 2002, and 30 of those since the last report.  Out of the 386, 343 of those have already been donated, which is 27 more since the last report!  Isn't this fantastic?  The excitement of this project just doesn't end for me and I hope you feel the same way!  I am thrilled to be a part of this project!

In the beginning, the RRCDs were done as the traditional "round robins", but a few months ago, we added a second method for making these quilts, made using the "row by row" method.  And beginning in late May, we kicked off yet a third method of making these quilts in which we simply make blocks to be sewn together.  This block by block method is already underway using the Snowball Block and 4-Patch 4-Rails. For more information regarding the ongoing collection of blocks, check in on the forum for snowballs or  4-Patch 4-Rails  or contact me for details!

I am tracking all of the Project Linus Project information on our Web site, so it is easy for you to keep up with what's happening with this tremendous and oh-so-rewarding project.  The site also contains information on the donations and the waiting list.  I continue to have organizations contact me wanting on our waiting list.  The need is so great and I feel as though we are just a mere drop in the bucket, but nonetheless, every stitch that we take impacts a life somewhere and that is good.  If you know of an organization needing donations, please feel free to contact me via sregora@quiltingpassion.com.   Also, once an organization has received a donation from us, they can request to be placed on the waiting list again.  It will take another year or so for them to receive quilts again, but it is sure worth the wait!

There are numerous block and fabric swaps going on, so if you're in the mood to sew, feel free to jump right in!  There are also many in the works, so stay tuned for new information.  If you would like to see a specific swap hosted, simply contact Myra (GR8DAME) and let her know and she'll see if she can get it kicked off.

Each month, we select two forum members to honor and recognize on the forum.  Since I've been remiss in publishing this newsletter, let me take this opportunity to catch up!  Congratulations to these Volunteer's of the Month for their outstanding willingness and generosity on the RRCD Projects.

  • Kathy, SC, August

  • Sharon, MO, September

  • Sharon, GA, October

And congratulations go to these Quilter's of the Month, for their outstanding participation on the forum.

  • Dorothy, KS, August

  • Claudia, CA, September

  • Jan, ME, October

All of these ladies deserve a huge round of applause for helping make the forum and all its activities a huge success.  I am so blessed to have the members that I do!  There is honestly no better forum on the 'Net than ours... and that is thanks to all of you!!!

Please continue to keep Patty and her family in your thoughts and prayers.  She is doing better, though, and that is great news!

For those of you that are members of home away from home, thank you.  For those of you that haven't visited/joined yet, please do so by signing up on the forum.  Remember, basic membership is still free and we have so much fun that we want to share it with you!

There are several classes in the works and more planned.  Be sure to check the QPU Web site  to see what's going on.

The Quilt As You Go Technique class began and then has gone idle while I've attended to real life.  It is my plan to start this back up after the holidays and I humbly apologize for letting this slide.

There are two new classes being taught by our very own Alexis!  Check these out!

  1. Fall Sampler, Course #204

  2. Blue Crowned Bear, Course #205

Hopefully, coming up next will be me getting off my duff and adding new things to do!!!  And I'd like to add here that I appreciate your patience when I slow down!

You should know this by now, but if you have any suggestions, questions, comments, etc., please feel free to contact me and let me know!
