When using embroidery
floss or Perle Cotton, remember that the thread has a
"direction" to it. If you thread your needle in
the same direction that it comes off of the spool/floss, then you
will have far fewer tangles and knots.
-
When cutting thread
from a spool, etc., first knot the end you cut so that you
remember which end should be threaded first through the needle.

When turning corners,
using the button-hole stitch, take smaller stitches.
-
When turning corners,
using the button-hole stitch, stab the corner just a few threads
inside of the corner. This will keep it more secure, while
the thread will cover the threads left open.
Blocks

When making Snowball
Blocks, the average size of squares to use for the triangular
corners is 1/3 the finished size of the block. For example,
a 9" finished block should use 3" squares for the
corners. (MerryHands)

UFOs and Quilt Tops: Try hanging curtain
rods on walls in your sewing room, then draping UFOs or unfinished
quilts over them. It helps keep them organized, keeps them
fresh in your mind, and looks like art! (Pam29011)
