Paper-Pieced Method

Yet another easy method of making Flying Geese, this method only yields one (1) Flying Geese block, but it is very accurate in that it is paper-pieced.  There is an option for making more than one at a time, however, if you copy the pattern, alleviate one of the 1/4" seams, and then butt them against one another and keep sewing up the pattern.

The instructions given below allow you to make any length of Flying Geese that you want.  To take the "math" out of it, simply copy it, then enlarge and/or reduce it to the desired size.  As is, this block pattern is 4" x 8" finished and 4.5" x 8.5" unfinished.

  1. Print off the pattern given here or at the bottom of this page.:  Flying Geese Block

  2. Enlarge and/or Reduce it to the size needed.

  3. Paper-piece the block, beginning with 1, then on to 2 and 3.

  4. After each piece is sewn, trim the seam allowance to approximately 1/4".

  5. Press the block flat when finished.
