FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and allows the transferring of
files from one computer to another. Some sites are restricted and require
the use of an assigned user name and password. Other sites allow anonymous
FTP, in which your email address is the password. In fact, one of the most
popular activities on the Internet is in using Anonymous FTP to obtain
freeware and shareware programs, electronic texts, and multimedia files.
Another extremely popular FTP activities on the Internet is in uploading
files to Web sites. So, in essence, you can not only download files,
but you can also upload files using FTP.
